About the new Local Government Center Oregon School Boards Association, League of Oregon Cities and Association of Oregon Counties joined together in 1972 to build the original Local Government Center (LGC) building in Salem for $250,000. The center symbolized intergovernmental cooperation and provided easy access to the Capitol. The original structure was expanded in 1977 and again in 1984 to deal with space needs and future growth.
