What is Out of the Pits?
Out of the Pits is a non-profit corporation founded in 1996 to address the plight of the Pit Bull. We seek to make the public aware that the Pit Bull– not long ago America's favorite dog– has become the world's most misunderstood breed.
Inherently intelligent, loving and loyal to a fault, the breed once known as the "children's nursemaid" has only recently fallen into the hands of a criminal subculture that uses systematic brutality to force the dogs to fight or "guard" drugs.
Although Out of the Pits defines itself as a rescue organization (we have successfully placed hundreds of dogs), our main focus is on public education. For every acceptable home found for one of our dogs, we receive hundreds of calls asking that we rescue a Pit Bull. Only when the true nature of the breed is recognized, will a sufficient number of loving homes open up to the many thousands of displaced dogs filling streets and shelters. Our continuing efforts are aimed at restoring the breed to its former position of esteem in the hearts and minds of people everywhere.
