Description
I started making panoramic pictures while working as a youth worker in York. I produced this picture for the front cover of an annual report, and it received so much attention that I decided to have a go at doing some more. Over a few months I bought some equipment and learned as much as I could about photography, printing, papers and inks. I've never had any training in any of this, and still fit it in around my three part-time jobs (one in Leeds Metropolitan University, one as an online support worker, and one as a tour guide).
For those who are interested in this type of thing: I take my original photographs with a Ricoh Caplio R1v digital camera - a truly wonderful compact camera with an unusually wide-angle lens and a very cool on/off switch. I use a small collapsible tripod that I bought from Ebay. I started off editing the pictures using Adobe PhotoDeluxe, but I’m pleased to say I’ve now progressed to Photoshop Elements. The pictures are saved as uncompressed bitmaps (usually around 100MB each) and printed using QImage. I print using an Epson 6-colour printer onto Red River 47lb Premium Matte paper, which I selected after weeks of research for its combination of big sizes, fantastic and artistic-looking results and long-lasting prints.
