Nick Brown, outdoor enthusiast and founder of Nikwax, recognises the shortcomings of conventional breathable waterproofs and sets about changing the perception of outdoor clothing. The approach adopted in the development of Nikwax Analogy fabrics is based upon a study of the physiology of biological systems controlling water transfer, both in animals and plants. By directing liquid water around the clothing system the wearer remains comfortable at all times.
The first real opportunity to test the system was when Nick visited the Páramo area of the Colombian Andes. He stayed warm, dry and comfortable despite heavy weather at 3,800 metres.
Nick approached several manufacturers of outdoor clothing with his revolutionary fabric without success. Páramo Directional Clothing Systems was created because of the total rejection of the idea by the outdoor clothing companies.
