Although parathyroid disease is quite rare, with the average surgeon performing only one parathyroid operation every 2 years or so, the Norman Parathyroid Clinic performs parathyroid operations exclusively--an average of 13 parathyroid surgeries per day--FAR more than any other surgeon, hospital, or clinic in the world. This is over 1800 parathyroid operations per year, about 20% of all parathyroid operations performed in the US every year, and almost 90% of all the parathyroid operations performed in Florida every year. The reason for this very high degree of specialization is that Dr Norman was the developer of minimally invasive radioguided parathyroid surgery in the mid 1990's, and since that time patients with parathyroid disease come from all over the US, and even from countries from around the world to have Dr Norman and his partner Dr Politz perform their parathyroid surgery. Drs Norman and Politz work closely with what is unquestionably the world's best nuclear radiology team, performing more parathyroid Sestamibi scans than any other institution world-wide (and developing many of the techniques used for this study). This level of volume and dedication to one disease has made the treatment of parathyroid disease a highly specialized field. Our expertise has made parathyroid surgery a very straightforward, routine outpatient procedure that usually takes 15 minutes or less!
Note: Don't let the fact that we do so many parathyroid operations make you think that we don't treat our patients well. We do! In fact, every patient is given Dr Norman's and Dr Politz's home telephone numbers and cell phone numbers so they have access to them when ever they want/need. We don't use an answering service--our patients can call us at any time.
