ParkedPage
edit What is a parking lot?
A parking lot (parked page) or link farm is a holding page that often looks similar to the examples on this page. They have virtually no content besides advertising links.
Often when someone buys* a website domain name the registrar will put up a parking page, which makes registries a little bit of money until a website is developed. Or sometimes if someone lets their domain name expire it will be nabbed up by someone else and turned into a parked page.
A specific type of parked page or parking lot is a typo squat, in which someone registers a mistype of a popular website in an attempt to catch its traffic. (abUOtus.org is one example.)
*Domain names are really leased, not bought... see our weblog post on the subject.
edit How to mark parking lots on AboutUs.org
Noting domain names/websites as parking lots is particularly helpful to people that are trying to figure out what happened to an old site. To note that a site is a parking lot change its top summary to say "is a [[parking lot]]" which will then link them to this page explaining what a parking lot is. It is good to also remove most of the content (and tags) from the page and place {{ParkingLot}} in the wiki section of the page to help explain.
