Description

Crystal Archive prints have quickly become the new standard for fine art color photographs. They offer far superior color, tonal range, and sharpness as compared to any other traditional printing method. They also offer far greater archival stability. Crystal Archive prints have been independently tested to be more archival than any other popular printing processes, including Ilfochrome, C-prints and Type R prints. In controlled testing, the paper lasts over 60 years without noticeable fading-- this is over two times longer than Ilfochrome prints.

The process of creating a digital print begins with scanning the original transparency (slide) on a high-end drum scanner to create a 100 mb file which captures all the detail in the original image. This file is then brought into the digital darkroom using Adobe Photoshop for traditional manipulation such as dodging and burning and color correction. Imperfections in the film emulsion such as scratches, imbedded dirt, and unwanted color shifts can also be corrected with ease. This digital manipulation allows for far greater control over the image than any traditional method since individual colors and minute details can be controlled with precision. The result is a final print that more closely matches the original transparency or the photographers chosen interpretation.

Once the master file is created it is then output onto Fuji Crystal Archive photographic paper using either the Lightjet 5000 laser printer, or an LED printer from Chromira. The entire digital process is color managed from beginning to end which allows for incredibly consistent results from print to print.
