The Pediatric Cancer Foundation is a non-profit organization whose mission is to fund research that will lead to a cure for childhood cancer. Founded in 1991, the Pediatric Cancer Foundation has become a distinguished leader and driving force in accelerating the discovery of cures for childhood cancers by spearheading innovative research initiatives. The Foundation has funded over $3.4 million in research grants to institutions including H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center and St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital in Tampa, All Children’s Research Institute in St. Petersburg, the University of Florida in Gainesville and the University of Miami, School of Medicine. Through the Pediatric Cancer Foundation’s most recent research initiative, The Sunshine Project, the organization has created a national research collaborative, bringing together the nation’s top doctors, investigators and institutions to fast-track the discovery of new treatment options for children battling cancer.
Through The Sunshine Project, the Pediatric Cancer Foundation is working in partnership with All Children’s Hospital of St. Petersburg, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, City of Hope National Medical Center, H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center, Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center at Johns Hopkins, M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, Nemours Children’s Clinic of Jacksonville, Phoenix Children’s Hospital, Southern Alberta Children’s Cancer Center Program, University of Arizona Health Sciences Center, University of Colorado, University of Florida College of Medicine and Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital.
Childhood cancer remains the #1 killing disease of our children, taking more young lives than AIDS, asthma, diabetes and cystic fibrosis combined. Many forms of childhood cancer have not seen new treatment options in over 20 years. Through The Sunshine Project, the Pediatric Cancer Foundation is working at an accelerated pace to change that. This year, we plan to have three brand new clinical trials up and running for children with cancer. These clinical trials represent new hope for children that have run out of treatment options.
