For more than 23 years, PC Power & Cooling has been the leader in the high performance computer power supply industry. We always developed cutting edge and innovative products and made a goal out of setting higher limits for ourselves and the industry. Among our innovations: the first PC heat alarm, the first CPU cooler, the first 1000w power supply and the first NVIDIA SLI Certified power supply. We are the only power supply manufacturer that offers for each power supply our customers buy an individual certified test report. All our products are expertly engineered in San Diego, California.

PC Power & Cooling | Company History

PC Power & Cooling started the business back in 1985, on April 19th, in a small warehouse outside of San Diego. In an interview for the Computer Power User magazine, Doug Dobson the founder of PC Power & Cooling, offered his explanation how he started:

DougDobson.jpg

"I was an electronic hobbyist since I was a kid, and my background was in economics and commodity trading. I had one of the first XT computers. The computer was extremely noisy, so I created a special large-diameter cooling fan to take the place of the small fan that was inside of it and just did it for myself to reduce noise. Then people came and saw it. They wanted one, and one thing led to another. So I started making these things in my garage in 1985. Then I realized that the entire power supply needed to be redesigned because it was just poorly designed by IBM in the early days. The fan would cavitate. There was no real airflow coming out, so you had a ton of noise and no cooling. We started developing power supplies that were both quieter and cooler than the stock XT power supplies and we started getting customers for both attributes."

First products the company produced were custom fans to cool computers and make them quieter. Then, in 1986, PC Power & Cooling presented its first power supplies. The Silencer 150 and the Turbo-Cool 200 were the industry's first high performance and ultra quiet computer power supplies. The people's reviews were great, soon other cutting edge products appeard and the company grew. 1991 was the year when PC Power & Cooling moved to its current facility in San Diego. PC Power & Cooling takes pride in its loyal and knowledgeable customer base, its ultra reliable product line, its professional staff and its financial strength.

AnandTech.com - Silencer 750 Quad (Black)

"The AnandTech Gold Editor's Choice award goes to the PC Power & Cooling Silencer 750 Quad. It was one of the first units we reviewed in 2007, and remains the best overall power supply we've tested. In addition to top notch performance, the Silencer 750 Quad is equipped with a full range of connectivity options (including four PEG connectors, two of which convert to the 8-pin standard), and ample wattage for nearly any high-end system, including SLI or Crossfire configurations. In the final analysis, if you want the best power supply available for your new SLI or Crossfire rig, AnandTech's top recommendation goes to the Silencer 750 Quad."

MaximumPC.com - Silencer 750 Quad (Black)

"PC Power & Cooling has been named the power source for the 9th consecutive year for Maximum PC's annual Dream Machine build. The Silencer 750 Quad has been used two years running! This SLI/CrossFire ready PSU delivers more than enough juice. Even better, the unit uses a single rail design to power all components, states the official Dream Machine article, published in the September 2007 issue of Maximum PC. While other PSU makers sport multiple rails, which don't make efficient use of resources, the Silencer 750 Quad puts the power where you need it."

HardwareLogic.com - Silencer 610 EPS12V

"Beating competing PSU models such as Corsair VX 450W, Be Quiet! StraightPower 600W and 550W, Apevia Iceberg 680W, Antech TruePower Trio 650W, and Hiper Type-R 580W, the Silencer proved its grit at Hardware Logic: Way to go PC Power & Cooling, good and clean power! The PC Power & Cooling Silencer 610 EPS12V power supply is a solid performer with a strong warranty. If you are looking for a PSU for a serious application in the 600 watt range, this one should be among your considerations. If you are really serious about pushing a system and need something solid, the PC Power & Cooling Silencer 610 EPS12V certainly fits the bill."

MadShrimps.be - Turbo-Cool 1KW-SR

"In a hobby with so many variables beyond our control, the last thing we need is an unstable power source. My experience with PCPower & Cooling is that their products offer the ultimate in stability eliminating that variable. While there are a few other PSUs on the market I might consider for different reasons, when it's comes to maximum power and stability, for the last five years only PCPower & Cooling products remain in my personal high end system."

AnandTech.com - Turbo-Cool 860

"The build quality is again very good, as we have come to expect from PCP&C. The chosen components are all very high quality, such as the Hitachi capacitor. PCP&C states an MTBF of 200,000 hours, which is definitely a long time. Well-chosen components are also responsible for the good overall test results. The output stability of the 12V rail is very good, coming within 2% of regulation. Efficiency-wise, this power supply is one of the best we have seen. PCP&C earned our Gold Editors' Choice award with their Silencer 750 Quad last year; the Turbo-Cool 860 looks to continue that legacy in 2008. We'll be looking at plenty of contenders, but at present PCP&C has set the bar quite high."

AwardFabrik.de - Turbo-Cool 1200

"Even under load of 900-1000W the 1200W monster from PC Power & Cooling stays completely stable. The 12V rail is extremely stable, under full load it doesn’t move more than 0.05 – 0.08V. The complete overclocked system with 1.85V v-Core on the CPU and 1.50V GPU on all graphic cards, was running at the limit for two hours without any issues. The cable management of the Turbo-Cool 1200 is very clever, it contains 6 PCIe Connectors for the VGA cards which is a big advantage. The PSU temperature remained low during the entire test and the noise level can also be seen as low."

PC Power & Cooling | Customer Testimonials

  • Edward Dungan: "Thanks, guys. The unexpected support from your company is pretty sweet, considering what is usually the case these days. I appreciate it, and will certainly recommend you to colleagues and friends who, like me, like to tweak their systems."
  • Jeff Lemanski: "I just wanted to tell you I am very happy with my new power supply, what a difference over the stock Dell power supply. I could not believe how light the old power supply was. Installed in a snap and working like a champ. Thanks."
  • Thomas S. Ahern: "We have been photocopying your ads and passing them out to our customers, mainly computer dealers and third-party maintenance companies, suggesting that your superior power supplies should be installed as insurance against failures in drives, controller cards, motherboards, and other add-in boards... You make excellent products that few realize they very much need. Keep up the good work!"
  • David D. Brown: "Thank you so much for your time. I received the PSU later the same day I emailed you. I've since installed it and my PC has never run better. All the random lockups and general weirdness has completely gone away. I would like to take the opportunity to say that your product is, without a doubt, the most solid and well built PSU I've ever seen. I'm thoroughly impressed by the quality throughout and the braided sleeves for all the cables are a very nice touch to an already outstanding product. I'm a senior member at two different tech forums and rest assured your products will be highly recommended when the opportunity arises."
  • Paul J. Poulin: "I purchased your Turbo-Cool 510 ATX power supply and now I am completely spoiled. I can never look at another power supply and feel it will provide adequate power to my systems. I have always bought high end power supplies like Antec TruePower 550, but the PCP&C Turbo-Cool 510 ATX kicks its ass. My machines really run much better. I never worry about voltage. Even under maximum load, the 3.3V, 12V rails don't even budge. Great product."
