Perens has been one of the major developers of GNU/Linux since 1994. He is co-founder of the Open Source Initiative, former Debian project leader, and founder of No-Code International, an organization dedicated to eliminating the Morse code test for Amateur Radio licensing. Perens is a well-traveled public speaker and a consultant assisting companies, government, and organizations with Open Source policy and processes.
