- In 1980 the creator of Personal Alert was trying to find something to help a friend stay in her home after her husband had died. It turned out there were only a few companies across the country providing this type of service. After discovering it could cost hundreds of dollars to install and fifty to a hundred dollars per month for monitoring, this was too costly. So being an electronics engineer he designed a simple but quality system that he started installing for free with a monitoring cost of only $16 per month.
