Peshawar is the capital city of the North Western Frontier Province (NWFP) in the north of Pakistan. Originally the NWFP was part of the Punjab but was made into a separate province just over a century ago by the British who ruled Undivided India until the Partition of the Indian Subcontinent in 1947. The famous Khyber Pass is very close to Peshawar and is the gateway to Afghanistan.
