Title

Paintings by Peter Stone: Surrealism, landscapes and still life

Description

Peter A. Stone II began his art education the age of 19 at Mount Wachusett Community College in his home town of Gardner MA, where he was asked to paint a large, mural sized painting for permanent display at the front entrance of the school.

Simply titled "Union Square Train Station", the approximately five by ten foot painting showed a focus of broad shapes, repeated patterns, and fauvist color styling that would become the basis of his later works.

He continued his studies for two years at Massachusetts College of Art where he began experimenting with a surrealist style. His most famous painting from this period, "If This Were August; This Would Be Perfect" was the centerpiece of a group showing at his old college, and is still available for purchase.
