Photos.Aero the friendly aviation photography community edit
Photos.aero is a longstanding aviation community website that recently relaunched with new servers and a new look.
A collaborative effort between many individuals and site proprietor Darryl Morrell, the site promotes a community spirit between photographers of all ages and ability. Other sites have become too equipment and rules focussed, damaging what community spirit and goodwill they may have had.
The site exists as an online archive of quality aviation imagery and has a lively discussion forum.
As a work in progress, the membetship has driven the way in which policies at the site have evolved. One major site principle is that photographers retain all the rights to their own work and do not licence their photographs for commercial use elsewhere.
Community help and mentoring edit
This has been the most popular feature of the site. Rather than have photographers have work rejected out of hand with terse comments, site screeners now give any helpful hints they can to try and make the work acceptable. The acceptance standards are not relaxed in comparison to other major gallery sites, it is merely a different emphasis. The bar is not set to trip people up, but instead as something to aim at which other photographers and the staff will work with contributors to get over.
Contributions are accepted from registered members, and registration remains free of charge. Civil, military and general aviation are all welcome.
