History
The Place de Clichy Herbalist Center of Paris was established in 1880. It is the oldest and largest herbalist shop in Europe. The shop is younger than the Louvre but actually older than the Eiffel Tower.
Two Doctors of Pharmacy trained as biologists and with Diplomas in Phytopharmacology and Pharmacognosis became in 1993 the proprietors of the Place de Clichy Herbalist Center. In 1997 they opened a second shop on the opposite bank of the Seine (the river flowing through Paris) in what is known as the Latin Quarter.
Over time the shop had been owned and operated by botanist herbalists followed by general herbalists. Since the suppression of the Herbalist Diploma by the French Government in 1942 the Herbalist Shop has continued to function under direction pharmacists and chemists. The Herbalist Center is currently staffed by herbalist pharmacists.
