Piczo.com is a popular social networking website, allowing its users to create and host their own web sites with little technical knowledge. It is particularly popular among young teens. It has been compared to MySpace.com, except it allows users to customize their sites to a much higher degree than MySpace, which only allows preset forms to be filled out.

Piczo.com has several different methods of page creation and hosting (all of which are free). It includes a site builder application to help the users to create their home pages, as well as an area in which the user can enter custom HTML to create an entirely unique site. Friends lists are integrated into most sites, showing off the social groups and rings each user belongs to.

The sites hosted on Piczo are usually very heavy in graphics and colors. Piczo provides photo hosting for users so that they don’t have to use a completely separate service like Photobucket. It is very much an all-in-one service that lets users create a personalized web site from the ground up with fewer restrictions than some of its comparable social networking web sites.

Piczo has been under heavy fire from other web sites because of the tendency of its users to place copyrighted content on their pages. The infringement is usually the biggest issue, but occasionally problems will arise from direct linking (the Piczo user sucking away the bandwidth of the victim). The users are usually unwitting and certainly not malicious in their deeds.

Piczo.com also has a feature that cycles through existing sites and allows someone to rate them or give them feedback. It’s something that doesn’t require any setup or effort, and allows the users to get constructive criticism on their design (and hopefully learn some web design skills that may help them out later in life).
