Description
Members must determine for themselves the amount that they feel is appropriate to pay for their monthly dues. Like most churches, synagogues, and mosques, Pine Hill Zendo relies on the generosity and good will of its members in order to remain a viable institution.
As a guideline, members who are committed to practicing at Pine Hill Zendo are encouraged to work one hour per week for the Zendo, meaning that they should set their monthly dues at about four times their average hourly income. For most people, this will correspond to between 2% and 2.5% of their income. Recent studies have shown that, on average, people in the U.S. who attend religious services on a regular basis donate about 4% of their income to their religious institution (Alban Institute).
Visitors and newer members who are not certain that Pine Hill Zendo is the right organization for them may pay less if they choose. However, all those who attend regularly scheduled sittings are strongly encouraged to make a minimum contribution of $50 per month or $15 per sitting. Members for whom this is a hardship may prefer to volunteer four hours of their time per month to work at the Zendo.
