PlayNetrek.org is a site I created in January 2004 to serve as a fast starting point for new players and is used to promote the game. This is not the Netrek homepage and is not meant to replace it. The Netrek homepage is located at www.netrek.org and is maintained by Erik Hietbrink who has done a great job renovating and maintaining netrek.org.
I have several search engine and download services tied to PlayNetrek.org and I run optimization tools against this site to help with search engine rankings. I use PlayNetrek.org so I do not have to pay for these services again and also so I can make changes on the fly when I run certain utilities against this site. This allows me to track statistics and new users. PlayNetrek.org currently gets 100+ unique visitors everyday. If you see someone playing with the 'new-be-nice' login, it most likely means they downloaded the game from PlayNetrek.org or from one of the sites I am using to promote Netrek.
