On the Internet, Patrick is best known as the author of PmWiki . PmWiki is an open source PmWiki/WikiWikiWeb system written in PHP and specifically designed to support web development. He is also known for his articles, Strawberry Pop-Tart Blowtorches and Fun With Grapes, which he wrote in the summer of 1994 to evaluate the web as a communications medium and which have been widely cited both on the web and in the popular press.

Patrick was formerly a Professor of Computer Science at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi and the director of the Division of Nearshore Research at TAMU-CC.
