Description

The Porcelain House story began in Taiwan over 40 years ago. Two brothers, Andy and Tony Chen, borrowed money from their mother and formed a small but thriving studio that first reproduced Tang Dynasty replicas and blood-red tableware. Their methods and ingenuity of ceramic became well known in Taipei's artistic community. Calligraphers and eminent scroll painters were commissioned to put their brushes on the clay canvas, be they vase, plates, or lamps.

In 1978, the brothers took their business to the United States and officially opened their studio to produce the same inspired porcelain. Their knowledge of Eastern antiquity melded with Western influences on Arts and Crafts. In addition to baking ceramics, each brother separately made a business of repairing broken ones. Soon, their reputation for restoration garnered work from around the country and as far as overseas. By the late 1980s, Andy and Tony dissolve their partnership to worked as full-time restorers. From 1999 until his death, Tony T. Chen continued restoration full-time, while Andy H. T. Chen continues to create original limited edition pottery and porcelain, which for the first time are available on the Internet.
