Knowing Benny M. Abante Jr., it is indeed impossible for anybody not be left with indelible mark of his character.Pastor Benny M. Abante, Jr.s name rings throughout the Philippines and even abroad because of the many firsts to his merit. Preceded by prayer, consultation of the word of God, and with the prodding of the Spirit of God with him, ideas would begin to be fertilized and finally hatched. He started the idea of indigenous local church, a church pastured and supported by it local members. An otherwise thought as impossible by Filipino churches who depended on American Missionaries for its needs, the Metropolitan Bible Baptist Church fully supported by its Filipino members sparked the fever that spread on the Baptist Bible Fellowship churches all over he country.
He was also the one behind the mechanics of the firstfruits giving. The firstfruits spoken in Proverbs 3: 9-10 is the sacrificial offering practiced explicitly by the Old Testament believers and given to the local church as proof of ones love for God and his work. Right now, churches all over the Philippines began to catch the fever and adopted them in their own churches. You can now see church buildings sprouting as a result of firstfruit giving. Many things before known as impossible now became possible because faithful local churches proved God by their faithfulness, dedication and sacrifices. This moves some people who are against the changing of their old, erring ways and advantageous methods to hate Pastor Abante. But to those whose churches began to grow, prosper and proved God became more than grateful. Those are the people that began to love Dr. Benny M. Abante Jr.
The secret of Pastor Abantes innovations, and projects to reach more souls for Christ, to prove the Christians faithfulness for God and to further the service for the King of Kings is the great love burning in the heart of the man. To this man was given a great vision not usually bestowed to many. He has so soft a heart for people that he would many times hide his tears when witnessing to a lost soul. He would sacrifice his safety and conveniences just to preach to the provinces and far flung areas usually heavily infested by NPAs. He has been under surgery three times now because of the burden of his work. Truly he has sacrificed blood and tears before this church became what is today. Love sustained him to go on through many criticisms, persecutions and trials in the ministry. Even in his leisure time and light moments, his mind still geared on reaching the lost. Such sacrifice, such care, such compassion, such lovesuch man who dared die to self that Jesus would live in the hearts of men. Who could not help and reciprocate that love? It wouldnt be any surprise why those loyal to him (his members and Pastors alike) would willingly give their lives for him.
