High Technology in Oregon

PortlandTech MotifSmall.png
What we consider High Technology in Portland began after the Second World War with the founding of Tektronix and ESI. Originally Tektronix was located on Southeast Hawthorne, but after a few years moved to its historic location just north of Beaverton.

Both were relatively isolated (although the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry and the Oregon Graduate Institute did try to help fill the gap) until the mid-1970s when Intel built its first chip fabrication plant (or Fab) in Oregon at Aloha, between Beaverton and Hillsboro. Both Tektronix and Intel gave rise to a series of spin-offs that included Floating Point Systems, Mentor Graphics, and Sequent.
