Welcome to the Potomac Paddlesports community! Operating in Potomac, Maryland (15 miles from Washington D.C.), we are the Potomac's premier whitewater kayaking school for beginners.
Potomac Paddlesports was founded in 1999 by our President and head instructor Sunny Pitcher. And while the Potomac had many kayak programs at the time, Sunny felt that many of these schools offered more of a cheap thrill rather than a comprehenisve training program. So, Sunny started teaching beginner lessons off the roof of an old Volvo and the rest is history. Since then, we have taught over 4000 folks the finer points of all forms of kayaking.
We offer a more innovative progression for new paddlers and our clients tell us that we run a very professional outfit. Potomac Paddlesports was the first professional kayak school to have it's entire program fully sanctioned by the American Canoe Association. Our programs are uniquely tailored for beginners with an emphasis on safety, skill, and community.
