Cornwall-based sculptor, ceramicist and horticulturalist, Ken Luckhurst, specialises in Sgraffito and Smoked Earthenware using the coiling process. This web site shows examples of his pottery, sculptures, woodcarvings and mixed art forms, for both practical and decorative use.

Examples of Work
Sgraffito Flaggon
Coil built. Glazed inside and top/bottom. Decorated with sgraffito scenes of Cornwall (shown right).
Lugged Vessels
All made with clay from Lizard Village. Coil built - fired to 900°C and decorated with Elm twigs. Unglazed, 3"-6" tall. Sawdust smoked.
Three Vases
Coil built in red or white earthenware. Necks textured using a woodcarving gouge. Glazed inside and smoked in sawdust. Fired to 1000°C.
Female Torso
White earthenware and porcelain in equal parts. Fired to 900°C. Wax finish. Mounted on turned sweet chesnut plinth. 10" high.
Horse's Head
Black stained earthenware. Sculpted as a solid lump of clay then cut into three sections while still wet and hollowed out to a thickness of 10mm. It was then re-joined and further refined. Fired to 950°C. Sealed with terracotta floor tile sealant and polish.
Samurai Helmet
Grogged white earthenware with pewter glaze.
Horse Carving
Rearing horse carved in English Walnut. 7"
