Progeny: The Linux Platform Company

Description

Progeny is the leading independent provider of custom Linux technology. Our custom Linux platform development and maintenance technologies support Debian- and RPM-based Linux platforms. Progeny's Platform Services allows organizations to reduce the costly and time-consuming work of creating, testing, and managing their own Linux distributions. Progeny provides security patches for Red Hat® Linux® 7.2, 7.3, 8.0, and 9; specialized platform migration; custom component integration; and platform creation, maintenance, and customization.

With more than a decade of experience building Linux solutions, Progeny's Linux experts pioneered a number of the technologies and best practices that shape the Linux landscape today. Progeny was founded by Debian Linux creator Ian Murdock. In 1993, Murdock recognized that the absence of a solid underlying platform was limiting the acceptance of Linux beyond the hackers and enthusiasts who created it. The resulting Debian Project has contributed innovations that have become pervasive in the Linux community. These innovations include the use of a package system—a concept now utilized in virtually every Linux distribution—and embracing the open-source approach to community creation of software. Today, Debian is the Linux distribution most widely used by software developers.

Based on customer input, Progeny realized that what the marketplace really needed (and what we were uniquely qualified to provide) was a superior, cost-effective alternative for building and maintaining a customized Linux platform—focused not around a particular distribution, but on Linux as a whole. Our distribution-neutral approach is ideally suited to those companies that are interested in basing their products on Linux, not on a particular Linux distribution.
