Richard Calo received his Ph.D in 1997 from Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, and has worked as an applied anthropologist and consultant in Europe and the Middle East. He has published on belief systems, myth, and ritual, and his current research concentration is American Prom in its relation to coming of age practices from around the world.
His new book on prom, The First Book of Prom is the first book of its kind to demonstrate the importance of prom as a uniquely North American tradition and important coming-of- age practice.
Shannon Hurd graduated in May 2002 with a master’s degree in journalism from the University of Colorado-Boulder (GPA: 3.94!), which she obtained while interning for The Boulder Daily Camera AND teaching two undergraduate writing courses per semester.
