May sound corny, but its true. I grew up in West Texas where the sand used to blow a lot. All the trees in my neighborhood leaned to the northeast. When I was seven years old, I was invited by a kid down the block to attend a Wednesday afternoon Bible Class, held after school at the home of Mrs. Pauline Click. She lived on the corner of 33
My twin brother, Terry, and I crowded in with 40 other kids to her living room and sang songs like “Do Lord” and “I’m in the Lord’s Army.” We were challenged to memorize a Scripture verse, then listened to a Bible story illustrated on “Flannelgraph.” If you haven’t heard of flannelgraph, it’s a board on an easel where cloth layers of scenes are placed and pictures of Bible characters are attached with flannel, similar to Velcro today. Mrs. Click could really fire my imagination with her storytelling! When she concluded her lesson with an invitation to receive Christ, Terry and I responded.
My life was awesomely changed that day. I had a new direction for my life. I knew then that I would be a preacher. What I had received – eternal life – I wanted to share with all the people in the world! By the way, I have been faithful to that calling to this very day – and I’m 63 years old now.
