I got the idea for Haute Mama Maternity while I was pregnant with my daughter. It was my first pregnancy and because I lived in a small town I had a very hard time finding maternity clothing. If fact there wasn’t even a maternity shop in my area! My only alternative was the Internet, so off I went surfing for some cute, modern and hip maternity clothes. There were lots of great maternity clothes out there, but not any t-shirts that had any pregnancy sayings or words on them. I was pregnant and wanted to tell the world! I bought a few t-shirts and embroidered "MOM2B" on one and "Miracle Within" on the other. Every time I wore them people would stop me and ask where they could get one. When I told them I made them, they would ask if I would make them one for their sister, sister-in-law, best friend, wife, grand daughter. Before you knew it, Haute Mama Maternity was born.
I wanted these shirts to be comfy, stylish, flattering and fun. I also wanted them to be functional. They would be something to wear almost everywhere and with almost everything. It wasn’t until after Peyton was born did I realize the importance of the word functional. I had the misconception that after the baby was born I would be able to fit into my "normal" shirts again. Not the case. They were too short and revealed my post partum tummy, and also were uncomfortably tight across the chest. I didn’t want to wear my maternity clothes, as they were too big, but my "normal" clothes were too small. Now what? I didn’t want to buy more clothes only to (hopefully) have them not fit in a few months. I needed a maternity shirt that had enough stretch so that I could wear it after the baby arrived without looking like I was still in maternity clothing.
In designing these shirts I took all that I had experienced into consideration and created a shirt that was everything I wanted it to be. I was able to wear the shirt almost anywhere and I could wear the shirt after the baby was born.
