I have not, prior to yesterday, visited Singapore for well over a decade (well, nor have I any other country). Highlights:
Berth tickets for night trains to Singapore are taken up fast. Any other seat is a gross waste of money. Spent RM30 to go to Singapore; couldn’t sleep a wink in “Superior Class”. KTM thought it would be funny to show a immensely dull movie until 1-something, and kept half the lights on since.
You’re probably better off just walking off from Woodlands Checkpoint. Waiting for everyone to come out of the train prior to being allowed to go on the train just to go to Tanjong Pagar is not worth it. My first walk in Singapore was from that checkpoint to Mairsiling MRT. OMG. Flats were spaced out by well-kept lawns with tall, multi-story trees. Malaysians probably spend more on landscaping, but the Singaporeans seem to have the better deal. I rather tall trees to Subang’s fake palm trees.
