The RAPIDS were created to give an opportunity to those players who live, eat, and breathe the game to play at the highest level possible and have a great time while doing so. We promote, mentor and nurture excellence in every area of player’s lives. We strongly emphasize the concept of the "Student Athlete" and reward accordingly. Excellent effort in the classroom translates to excellence on the court, and in life.
Respect and care for parents and family members, teammates and coaches is a cornerstone of the RAPIDS philosophy. RAPIDS players learn that balance and harmony are essential for success on the court as well as in life.
Essential to the RAPIDS program is the concept of competition. We try to teach girls that it is OK to compete, and essential for success. The competition we require is clearly defined: when we are on the court, everything, EVERYTHING is a competition; game, scrimmage, practice. When we step off the court the competition is over and we are one, even with our former opponents. As coaches we understand that the "fabric of the team" must be woven, it doesn’t just appear. Therefore, we conduct non-basketball events and regular basketball team building activities. This helps players learn that it is not a contradiction to want to beat your teammate in a scrimmage (because you know that it is going to make her a better player and your team more successful) and the next moment to be laughing with and then hugging that same teammate.
