Rawhide Boys Ranch

Since 1965 Rawhide Boys Ranch has been helping troubled youth turn their lives around. It all began in 1960, when a 13-year-old boy without a home asked to spend the day with John and Jan Gillespie. He stayed two years.

A dream to help more young people prompted the Gillespies to contact Green Bay Packer legend Bart Starr, and his wife, Cherry. The Starrs enthusiastically agreed to volunteer their time to develop a new, innovative youth program.

Rawhide takes a completely unique approach to training court-referred and at-risk young men. Instead of impersonal, institutional living, home-like residences each have up to ten young men, a set of houseparents (a husband and wife team), and two resident instructors (usually college graduates). Young men see the role that love and respect play in a family setting; many have never experienced the caring family atmosphere that Rawhide provides. The staff in each of Rawhide's four youth homes live in the home and share their lives with the boys 24 hours day, seven days a week.
