My name is Rebecca Blood, and this is my website, Rebecca's Pocket. My site consists of a weblog, some articles, and pages and pages of links on various things that interest me. I've been maintaining all of it since April 1999. These days I usually update my weblog Monday through Friday when I'm not travelling.
Rebecca's Pocket is devoted to highlighting whatever catches my attention, and I'm interested in lots of things. Some recurring themes are media literacy, sustainability, web culture, and domestic life. I often post about current events. Contradictions intrigue me. In thinking about the Web and technology, I tend to be a pragmatist, not a promoter. My interest is in the intersection between technology and human behavior: how people use technologies and how technologies influence what they do. I am fascinated with unintended consequences. I post the occasional recipe.
In the autumn of 2001 Perseus Publishing asked if I'd be interested in writing a book on weblogs; of course I said yes. The Weblog Handbook: Practical Advice on Creating and Maintaining Your Blog was published in July 2002. Less than a year later it went into its second printing. Since publishing my book, I've been invited to write for numerous publications, and to speak around the world about blogs and the Internet's impact on business, media, and society.
