Refugee Action Committee, Canberra Australia - index page
Description edit
Who We Are
The Refugee Action Committee is a network of concerned citizens around Australia seeking the fair and humane treatment of refugees in Australia. We are working to raise public awareness of the inhumane treatment of asylum seekers by the Australian government and to mobilise public protest. The Refugee Action Committee is composed of individuals from a broad range of backgrounds and is not associated with any political party. An Australia we can all be proud of will:
We have published a widely distributed fact sheet and taken up a number of mass petitions. We have also organised protest actions in Canberra, including pickets outside the Department of Immigration head office in Belconnen, and the 4000 strong rally at the opening of Federal parliament on 12 February 2002. And we have an ongoing program of community education.
We work closely with other like-minded organisations, such as Amnesty International, church, trade union and multicultural organisations. We welcome anyone with time and energy to contribute.
