Description

Raised in the short grass country of south central Kansas, Bobbi Shrum spent her youth working daily on the ranch. The Olivier Ranch of Harper, Kansas is a spread that raised registered Hereford cattle until the 70's, then changing over to a commercial cow-calf operation. During her years as a 4-H member, Bobbi owned and showed many beef sters and heifers, showing several to National champion and reserve championships at such shows as the Kansas Jr. National, National Western Stock Show in Denver, San Antonion Livestock show, Ft. Worth Show, and the American royal in Kansas City.

Along with the beef industry, Bobbi was active in the Kansas Jr. Hereford Association and won the National Public Speaking contest in 1970. She attended Kansas State University, was a member of the Block and Bridle and the K State rodeo team. H er journalism works were published in the American Hereford Journal and several regional magazines. Majoring in animal Science and Journalism, she went on to work for several magazines, including Paint Horse Racing review editor and freelanceing for the American Paint Horse Journal, Oklahoma Horse, and High Plains Journal.

Bobbi began her horse show career with a registered Appaloosa stallion named Rainy Doc in High School, showing him to several all around and then a State 4-H championship at halter in 1969. The black blanketed stallion died of colic her senior year.
