- Regional Network on Child Protection, RENOCP was first established in 1998 and in year 2000 incorporated as a project of The Girl Child Network (GCN) an organization devoted to the promotion and protection of rights of girls particularly of school going age, up to 18 years. Over the years, GCN has rescued many abused girls. However, experience has shown that the survivors of gender based violence require much more in order to address the trauma experienced and prevent further abuse. Although over 90% of the clients that seek help from the Girl Child Network suffer cumulative psychological trauma as a result of abuse persevered over long periods in their lives, GCN has largely depended on referrals to other institutions for the treatment. Lessons learnt from this approach in the past seven years have shown that there is no single institution that can offer the multiple support and services needed by the survivors of gender based violence.
