- An article in today's New York Times provides a damning indictment of Ohio's system for choosing state Supreme Court justices, namely that of having elections where candidates are permitted to receive campaign funding major contributors. This, by itself, may not be a particularly troubling practice, in light of rulings that equate contributions with "speech". However, because of a loopholes in codes of judicial ethics that permit judges to hear cases where major contributors are involved, the following situation becomes the rule rather than the exception:
