Welcome to the Alliance of Rhetoric Societies’ homepage. The Alliance (ARS) is a consortium of academic societies and organizations with a self-declared interest in rhetoric. As an organization of organizations, its concerns are to advance the work of rhetoric scholars, regardless of their tradition. Advancing our work includes information sharing about the scholarly pursuits within our respective departments. For that reason, ARS also includes individual departments as institutional members. ARS came into being as a response to the difficulty rhetoric scholars have experienced in learning about each other’s work, in sharing insights with those who are working on similar projects but in different traditions, in making their collective voice heard by granting agencies, and through an absence of coordination among their respective scholarly organizations. The ARS homepage represents the primary vehicle for information sharing among its member organizations. We hope it also serves that purpose for their respective members. It includes postings of information, links to a wide variety of rhetoric specific resources, and links to its organizational and institutional members’ homepages. I invite you to browse the various features and share your reactions. If there are links you think we should add, please pass them along. If your scholarly organization or department has a self-declared interest in rhetoric but is not a member, we invite you to call ARS to the attention its leadership and your society to ours.
