The Chinese characters that appear in the top-right corner (sorry about that, people whose browsers don't display graphics, but hang on, the story is still interesting) are those of of Richard's Chinese name: Li Xiaoshan. Evidently many Chinese people think that Richard looks like Dashan, so the name Xiaoshan—which means "Small Mountain"—was given as sort of an homage to that fact. He chose the family name Li because it is fairly common and is easy to write.
