Title
River House Shelter Domestic Crisis Services
Description
River House Shelter and Domestic Crisis Services (River House) is sponsored by Mercy Hospital Grayling, a private, non-profit 501(c)(3) charitable organization and a member organization of Trinity Health.
River House provides quality service to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault in a four county area and has been doing so since 1986.
It all began in 1985, when the Michigan Domestic Violence Prevention and Treatment Board (MDVPTB) contacted the Crawford County Family Independence Agency (FIA) concerning the need for a domestic violence shelter in central northern Michigan. The Crawford County FIA, in turn, contacted Mercy Hospital inquiring whether it would take on the responsibility of being the grantee for a domestic violence shelter program in Grayling to serve Crawford, Roscommon, Ogemaw and Oscoda Counties. In January 1986, the hospital committed to the project of River House Shelter by applying for and obtaining the said MDVPTB grant.
