Early in the 1930's, Cason Callaway, Sr. began accumulating varieties of azaleas to adorn his beloved land in Pine Mountain, GA. To add to the beauty, he bought several blueberry nurseries in Florida and further increased the splendor of his land with those acquisitions. For many years, this five-acre plot of land lay undeveloped, yet full of nature's beauty.
His love of native plants was passed to his son, Cason Callaway, Jr. Influenced by the nature that has surrounded him all his life, Cason Jr. began improving his father's property. Working an acre at a time, he found over 10,000 azaleas.
However, the density of these lovely plants kept them from blooming to their full potential. Because of their bounty, Cason Callaway, Jr. decided to share the beauty of the azaleas. Removing the underbrush, he forged trails through his father's land and established a nursery to make the azaleas available to others.
