RoseRites.com is a website devoted to the task of restoring The Rose: Council of Guardians to its former glory.
The Rose: Council of Guardians, for those that are unaware, is a text-based interactive fiction module (commonly referred to as a MUD). It was originally designed as a module for the Galacticomm BBS platform, and still runs on this platform today.
The original creators of The Rose were Warren Johnson (as Lead Programmer) and Richard E. Warren (as Chief Conceptual Engineer). The product was purchased by Metropolis Systems in 1995.
Metropolis Systems soon decided to reduce the work going into The Rose. After it floundered, a revival of The Rose was attempted by Steven Clementi (as Programmer/Developer) and Tom Spalango (as Conceptual Engineer). They performed a great deal of necessary work and updates on this game between 1999 and 2002.
Since 2002, The Rose: Council of Guardians has floundered; no new work has been performed, no new players have entered the iF, and the original websites (www.rosecog.com and www.rosecog.net) have been removed from active status.
RoseRites.com is owned by Third Strand Systems. Third Strand Systems, with Richard E. Warren (the original Conceptual Engineer) seeks to restore The Rose: Council of Guardians to active status, building on the original works and (hopefully) the works performed by Steve and Tom.
It is the hopes of Third Strand Systems to establish itself as a premier creator of text-based iF, and to eventually create a new product in the same vein as The Rose: Council of Guardians.
