History

The company was founded in 1939 in Los Angeles, California. The firm began its operations during the initial stage as a fabricator of steel reinforcing bar. During subsequent developments, the Company emerged as a full-line distributor of steel and aluminum functioning from a single metals service center located in Los Angeles. Eventually during the 1960's, the Company extended its operations by means of a series of acquisitions and by establishing a range of additional service centers. During the mid-1970's, the Company ventured into establishing specialty metals centers equipped with inventories of select range of metals like aluminum, stainless steel, brass and copper. The facility comprised automated materials handling and precision cutting equipment. Reliance completed an IPO in 1994 to raise the funds to go in for several acquisitions in the related industry. The subsequent acquisitions were significant in contributing a great deal towards the growth of the company. Following the initial offering in 1994, the company aggressively pursued multiple acquisitions and has completed about 30 acquisitions since then.
