Title

Rug Hooking Online

Description

In the 150 years since rug hooking became popular in North America, many books have been written about this craft. However, no periodicals covered the subject until professional rug designer Joan Moshimer began publishing Rug Hooker News & Views in 1972, a newsletter "by and for rug hookers." As more people took up hooks to try the craft and the rug hooking industry flourished, it became apparent that only a full-fledged magazine could best serve the growing audience.

In 1989, Stackpole Inc., a Pennsylvania-based book and magazine publisher, purchased Joan's newsletter and transformed it into Rug Hooking, the only full-color, internationally read magazine devoted exclusively to the subject of hand-hooked rugs. Under the management of Stackpole's magazine division, Rug Hooking is edited and designed by a staff of publishing professionals with years of experience in producing special-interest publications. In addition to publishing five issues of the magazine a year, the staff also creates the book series A Celebration of Hand-Hooked Rugs and other ancillary products intended to further promote this fiber art.

Ever since Rug Hooking's inception, its content and design have been refined to bring the readers what they want: striking color photographs of gorgeous rugs and illustrated stories that both inspire ande both novices and advanced rug hookers find helpful information. An editorial board composed of leading authorities in the field assists readers with advice. Freelance writers from around the world also contribute to the magazine.
