- The concept of Russell’s was started by the father of the current owner, Russell C. Gullo in the summer of 1980. The company started in his back yard on Miland Road in Clarence Center. Under the name of Russell’s Shrub & Tree Farm he worked out of his home and the Clinton Bailey market. In 1991 Russell J. Gullo, the current owner of Russell’s continued the business in the memory of his late father. In the early years Russell’s operated with one employee and some help from family members. Through better customer service and a personal touch not being delivered by other nurseries, Russell’s began to grow.
