Salvaterra Pottery

Description

Excerpted from the website:

Salvaterra Pottery was established in 1997. However, Sue Salvaterra Hintz dreamed of owning her own business for many years prior. As a college administrator at UNC-Asheville, Sue studied ceramics in the art department. After years of study, she realized this was the business she needed to create. Most people were discouraging, saying "You couldn’t make a living in the arts". But she had a calling to work in clay. She knew it was a calling because it brought her such joy. So she took a “leap of faith”, with confidence for future success. She stays grounded in this belief and counts her blessings daily for the discovery of clayart and all of the joy it brings. Selecting a business name was easy. She chose her maiden name, Salvaterra, because of its origins and meaning. The name was created years ago when her ancestors fled to the mountains in Italy to escape a deadly disease. The survivors all took the name Salvaterra, meaning “saving land.” And now she finds herself settled in the Blue Ridge Mountains, creating clayart. The beauty of the mountains inspires her designs. She shares her passion for her work with you and calls this "sharing the fire of clayart". We hope it encourages you to follow your dream. When you follow your dream, there is no failure—only accomplishable challenges along the way. May her work remind you of this message with each glance!
