Stuart Schwartz was brought up in New York. During his childhood, his parents began to move away from the Orthodox Jewish life that they had known into one that was more secular, successful, and upwardly mobile. Conversely, Stuart's instinct was to be inward and observant, but not in the religious way. Looking back, he notes that he had a natural connection to Self Inquiry.
Outwardly, Stuart's life was filled with material abundance, but he felt drawn to find happiness. After working in corporate America, he started his own business. At the same time, Stuart sought answers by working with many spiritual teachers. There were periods of awareness, well-being and joy, but the most dramatic awakening occurred while he was vacationing in Italy. He was wandering the streets of Rome and began questioning the existence and the knowing of supreme absolute bliss: What was blocking it and what was truly living in that awareness like? This questioning went on for many days with much pondering and surrendering. One evening while eating at a restaurant, he experienced that bliss in a thunderous announcement. Everything he knew of himself stopped. Human beings appeared translucent, and he felt the majestic power of joy. What was even more amazing was he heard the sound of glorious music similar to symphonic with exquisite crescendos.
Stuart's feeling was so rich that it appeared that the music's greatest desire was to thrill him more than he could believe possible. At that moment, he realized that the circuits of beliefs and understandings of how he knew himself had been disconnected.
