A near crisis in finding educator talent--in the classroom and in administrator positions--is happening in the U.S. An unprecedented shortage is escalating because of a huge number of retirements; doom-and-gloom coverage appears on the front pages of major metropolitan newspapers from New York to California. Estimates made throughout 2000 were that 2.5 million new teachers are needed in the U.S. between 2001 and 2010. California has estimated that it needs 30,000 new teachers in each of the next ten years! In the meantime, more and more educators, especially new teachers are leaving the field.
