The law firm of Cook, Barkett, Maguire and Ponder, founded in 1957 and located in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, focuses its practice on personal injury claims including, but not limited to, those arising from automobile accidents, medical malpractice, defective products and dangerous or unsafe conditions in the workplace or elsewhere. While neither the Supreme Court of Missouri nor The Missouri Bar certify law firms as specialists in any field, by limiting our practice to personal injury claims we are able to provide our clients with a focused and experienced team of lawyers prepared to assist them with every aspect of the litigation process from filing to discovery to trial and, if necessary, on appeal.
Our success is measured not only in terms of our verdicts and settlements, but also by our reputation. We are proud of our AV rating from Martindale-Hubbell. This is the highest rating possible, and one which has special significance as it is given based on ratings of our legal abilities and ethical standards by other lawyers with and against whom we have practiced. We also take pride in the fact that many of our cases come to us on referrals from past clients and from other attorneys.
While much of our practice takes place in Southeast Missouri, we frequently try cases in other locations including, St. Louis, Jefferson City and Springfield to name only a few. In the last several years we have also tried cases in Illinois and Arkansas. We are currently serving as Missouri counsel in a national alliance of attorneys representing children who have suffered mercury poisoning as the result of a preservative (Thimerosal) contained in childhood vaccines. This too is made possible by our team approach to handling our clients’ legal matters–an approach where everyone in the firm is available to assist with a case when the need arises.
