Description

Founded in 1963, Seattle Opera has developed into one of the leading opera companies in the United States. The company is recognized internationally for its theatrically compelling and musically accomplished performances. Seattle Opera’s summer presentations, particularly of Wagner’s Ring des Nibelungen, have been acclaimed often and widely as among the Pacific Northwest’s premier cultural events.

In August of 2003, Seattle Opera moved into its new state-of-the-art home, Marion Oliver McCaw Hall, on the Seattle campus. For its 2004-2005 season, the Opera is producing Wagner's Lohengrin in August, Verdi's Rigoletto in October, Puccini's Manon Lescaut in January, Daniel Catán's Florencia in the Amazons in February and March, and Offenbach's Tales of Hoffmann in May. Also, the artists participating in Seattle Opera's 2004-2005 Young Artists Program perform Mozart's Marriage of Figaro at the Meyenbauer Center in Bellevue in April.

In August of 2005, Seattle Opera brings back its acclaimed 2001 production of Wagner's Ring cycle. This production is accompanied by a festival of Wagner-related Education activities for opera-lovers of all ages. The 2005-2006 season launches in October with the area premiere of Jake Heggie's End of the Affair, followed by Johann Strauss Jr.'s Die Fledermaus in January, Mozart's Così fan tutte in February and March, and concludes with Verdi's Macbeth in May.
