ShadowSpear.com's Special Operations community website was initially formed upon its breakaway from another Special Operations oriented website due to issues with its moderation staff and to an attempt to escape the "holier than thou" attitude commonly expressed from the site's "BTDT" (been there done that; referring to the members that are or were Special Operations qualified) contingent. The creator sought to assist those seeking information without violating operational security (OPSEC), as well as assisting prospective candidates gather the necessary information for a career in military Special Operations.
The importance of the website was measured in how it revolutionalized the amount of information found about Special Operations Forces throughout the internet. Prior to its establishment, open source information on the subject matter was spread sporadically throughout the internet, but was consolidated in a complete manner by ShadowSpear. While other content management of SOF did exist, none provided the in depth, all-encompassing, information and features as ShadowSpear.

ShadowSpear's forum is the ShadowSpear Special Operations Community Forum which draws its members from the international military and Special Operations Forces. ShadowSpear has been growing at an unprecedented rate since its initial creation in July of 2006. It has acquired a substantial number of participating members coming from the Special Forces and Special Operations Forces communities from around the world.
